Jonesborough Historic Dance Society is holding a contra dance at the Jonesborough Visitors Center in Joneborough Tn. The dance will be from 7:30pm -10:30pm and will feature the live band Wabi Sabi. Come early at 7:00pm, where newcomers can get an introduction to the dance with a quick lesson on the basics of contra dancing.
Recognized by many as a combination of line, square and swing dancing, contra dancing is a form of folk dancing rich in the Appalachian heritage. Historically, folk dancing was used to meet and have fun with others in the area. The dance is a family friendly event where everyone is welcome, no partners are needed and there is no age requirement. The saying in Contra dancing is…. If you can walk, you can dance. So come out and enjoy live music and a great time with the Historic Jonesborough Dance Society.
